While browsing amazon I also found other books written by Daniel that I’ve added to my tbr. He co authors The Elixir Fixers with author Anneliese Mak, a young readers magical story of potions and magic. My daughter wanted it so we bought the first one. The next series I noticed was The next series I noticed was The Another series and he coauthors this with his sister Dina Nayeri. It looks so intriguing as well the end of the blurb reading like “The pulse-quickening climax revisits Jekyll and Hyde as a current-day cautionary tale laced with a heady dose of paranormal intrigue.” I’ve also added these to my overwhelming tbr pile. You can purchase these and his novella blow at the link above and on your favorite book retailers!

This is the blurb from the back of Everything Sad Is Untrue by Daniel Nayeri who also narrates this heart gripping read himself on audiobook.

A sprawling, evocative, and groundbreaking autobiographical novel told in the unforgettable and hilarious voice of a young Iranian refugee. It is a powerfully layered novel that poses the questions: Who owns the truth? Who speaks it? Who believes it?

“A patchwork story is the shame of the refugee,” Nayeri writes early in the novel. In an Oklahoman middle school, Khosrou (whom everyone calls Daniel) stands in front of a skeptical audience of classmates, telling the tales of his family’s history, stretching back years, decades, and centuries. At the core is Daniel’s story of how they became refugees—starting with his mother’s vocal embrace of Christianity in a country that made such a thing a capital offense, and continuing through their midnight flight from the secret police, bribing their way onto a plane-to-anywhere. Anywhere becomes the sad, cement refugee camps of Italy, and then finally asylum in the U.S. Implementing a distinct literary style and challenging western narrative structures, Nayeri deftly weaves through stories of the long and beautiful history of his family in Iran, adding a richness of ancient tales and Persian folklore.

Like Scheherazade of One Thousand and One Nights in a hostile classroom, Daniel spins a tale to save his own life: to stake his claim to the truth. EVERYTHING SAD IS UNTRUE (a true story) is a tale of heartbreak and resilience and urges readers to speak their truth and be heard.

Length 306 pages

Age level 10-18 but I think anyone young or old will enjoy this book!

I Purchased my copy on Audible.ca and this has been the first audiobook I have finished and loved. The way the story is told takes you to Daniels world like your right there with him.

My Review~ This heart gripping ya novel took ahold of me right from the very start with its unique well crafted writing and Daniels fun way of story telling. It tells the tale of what it was like for a young boy from Iran travelling to USA and how his life developed. There were parts broke my heart, built me up, and made me laugh along with Daniel giving the feeling that you are there with him. The blurb says it is a YA novel but I highly recommend this for any age!If your looking for a story that will stick with you through the years THIS IS IT! I gave this one a definite 5 out of 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and can’t wait to dig into his other books!
